Monday, May 29, at 9:30 am
Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade
Oh Happy Days - Let the Good Times Roll!
The "I Love A Parade Committee" has officially admitted MPJC (that's a change) into the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade. This is after years of exclusion and marching without permission, so we want to make a good showing. Bring your family and friends!
MPJC will assemble on on Throckmorton Ave., opposite Old Mill Park between the Mill Valley Library and Old Mill School at 9:30am
At a succession of meetings of MPJC acting as a committee of the whole, we have decided that we want to present our organization in a manner in keeping with Memorial Day. We have decided that the leading row of the marchers will carry bouquets of flowers to commemorate the fallen. This is in keeping with the original intent of what was formerly called "Decoration Day," which was to decorate the graves of those killed in the US Civil War. March organizers will provied the flowers, but people are also invited to bring their own and carry them wherever they are marching in the parade. However, we shall also have about 18 of the familiar peace-sign windmills that we have carried before.
People are also invited to bring their own posters. We shall have big banners like "Salaam, Sholum, Peace," "Honor the fallen by bringing the troops home now," "End the Immoral Occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine," "Impeach Bush and Cheney." This should give a sense of the breadth and tone of we want to project. Our intention is to let most of the spectators recognize that they are not alone in their feelings. We want to validate, not antagonize them, although we recognize that any message we were to present will not be approved by everyone.
It has been suggested that everyone wear at least white shirts or blouses. You may want to affix to your shirt a photo of one of the dead, which can be found on line (for instance, ABC.com. One way to do that is by hot ironing it on. It will be difficult to park cars near the assembly site, but not difficult on the other side of downtown.
If you have any questions or recommendations, give a call to Alan Barnett at 388-6488, or contact him at alanbarnett@sbcglobal.net.

HATI: THE UNTOLD STORY
Filmmaker Kevin Pina challenges the contemporary view of Haiti, revealing the hidden role of the 'international community' in Haitian politics. This provocative and lively film takes the viewer into parts of Haiti where few Western journalists dare to tread, and includes shocking footage of unreported human rights abuses, some which have been astonishingly conducted by UN forces. Pina’s film stands out because it connects the tragic events in Haiti with what he assesses as foreign intervention designed to deter democracy. Learn the side of the Haiti coverage not seen in regular media.?

Arsenal of Hypocrisy
The Space Program and the
Military Industrial Complex
A Community Film Showing in support of Christian Heath’s Social Landscape Project participating at the World Peace Forum 2006 in Vancouver.
Currently the US Military is pursuing the installation of space based weapons to enable “rapid global attack…anywhere in the world under any conditions”. In a democratic-republic the actions of government are supposed to reflect the general will of the people, while citizens must know what their government is doing to positively and constructively engage with it. In this positive spirit, please join a community film showing!
One Hour Film Features:
Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 Astronaut ;
Bruce Gagnon, Global Network Against Nuclear Weapons and Power in Space;
Noam Chomsky, Activist and Professor of Linguistics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT);
Outlines of U.S. plans to control space and the Earth below, dangers of Bush’s "Nuclear Systems Initiative" that would expand use of nuclear power in space by building Project Prometheus (the nuclear rocket). Archival footage, Pentagon documents, and President Dwight Eisenhower in 1961 warning the American people about the dangers of an unchecked military-industrial complex.

McCarthy Era Lessons for Bush’s America
Join
ROBERT MEEROPOL
Son of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg and Executive
Director of the Rosenberg Fund for Children
for a discussion of
Robert Meeropol was six years old when his parents, Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, were sent to the electric chair in 1953, executed by the U.S. government after one of the most hotly debated trials in U.S. history. Now, Meeropol leads the Rosenberg Fund for Children (RFC), a public foundation he started in 1990. The RFC echoes the support Meeropol received from the progressive community after his parents’ deaths, by aiding children of today’s activists who are living through similar nightmares to that which he experienced as a child.
In this presentation, followed by Q&A and a book signing, Meeropol - now an attorney, activist and Executive Director of the RFC- will discuss the many dangerous parallels between the post-9/11 political climate and the McCarthy era of the 1950’s.
Student Services Ctr. Cafeteria, College of Marin
Copies of AN EXECUTION IN THE FAMILY will be available for purchase.
Sponsored by the College of Marin Students for Social Responsibility, Marin Peace and Justice Coalition and Bay Area National Lawyers Guild
